God the Father

We believe in God, He is the Lord, the Author of life, Father all-mighty, maker of all things visible and invisible.

The Lord Jesus Christ

Truly God and truly man. Eternally begotten of the Father, yet in these last days was born of a virgin to be our messiah.

The Holy Spirit

Being God, the third person of the trinity. Convicting the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgement.

The Bible

The infallible, inspired Word of God. This is the foundation that our lives, as christians are to be built upon.

What we believe

God

We are Calvary Chapel’s Central Maui, and we are a community of believers. We believe in God, not that He’s some self-help method in the sky that only exists for our betterment. No, He is the Lord, the author of life, Father Almighty, maker of all things visible and invisible, and He is worthy of our worship, is worthy of our praise. We don’t try to conform Him to our will and our liking, as if He only exists for us. We submit to Him, knowing that He knows us, He made our lives, and He knows how to take the broken pieces of our lives and put them back together again. (Ref. Psalm 100:3)

Jesus Christ

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, consubstantial with the Father according to the godhead, and consubstantial with us according to the manhood, in all things like unto us, yet without sin. He’s the eternally begotten Son of the Father according to the Godhead, and yet, in these last days, for us and for our salvation, He was born of the Virgin Mary, of the tribe of Judah, of the line of David, to be our Messiah. See, it was disobedience that separated man from God in the beginning. Our Lord Jesus Christ, through His sinless life, through perfect obedience to the will of the Father, He paid the price to restore the relationship between God and man. His willingly offering His life and dying for our sins, through His victory over death and triumphant resurrection, we can be redeemed from the slavery of sin and restored into relationship with God. (Ref. Hebrews 4:15, 2:14-15; Philippians 2:8; 1 Peter 3:18; Romans 8:3; John 14:6)

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity. He is the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, and who, with the Father and the Son together, receives worship and is glorified. His work in the world today is that of convicting the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment, leading sinners to Christ, and sealing believers until the day of redemption. The Holy Spirit does not draw attention to Himself; He glorifies Jesus. (Ref. John 16:8; Ephesians 4:30; John 16:13-14)

Gifts of the Spirit

We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are for today and will remain in operation until believers are united with their Lord in Heaven. There are diversities among the gifts, gifts of administrations, and gifts of operations, and yes, there have been abuses of the operation of these gifts among churches. We believe that the operation of the gifts should be decent, it should be orderly, and most importantly, should draw attention to Jesus and done in the motivation of love. (Ref. 1 Corinthians 14:33, 40)

The Bible

We believe in the Bible. The Bible is the infallible, inspired Word of God. This is important and essential because it’s upon this foundation, the foundation of God’s Word, that our lives as Christians can be built. In it, we learn about God, we learn about ourselves, we learn about our world, and that we can have hope. That’s why we don’t just teach from the Bible, trying to squeeze it into our opinions. At Calvary Chapel Central Maui, we teach through the Bible, book by book, verse by verse. (Ref. Psalm 33:11; Romans 15:4; Matthew 24:35)

The Church

We believe in the church. See, there’s really only one church. The church is the Bride of Christ, the church is the body of Christ, the called out ones. The church will continue all the way from Pentecost to the rapture and it’s comprised of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ, His work on the cross, and have been cleansed from their sins by His precious blood. The purpose of the church on earth is to be a light that shines in the darkness and to share the gospel with those who haven’t received Him. Though there’s only one church, the Bible does speak of local churches. A local church is a group of believers that assemble together in a particular area. Calvary Chapel Central Maui is an expression of the local church. The author of the book of Hebrews exhorts us to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together. (Ref. Romans 10:13)

The Gathering

Why do we gather? Why do we exist? We assemble to corporately worship the Lord, we stir each other up to love and good works. We gather together to seek the Lord in His word, to be individually equipped for the work that the Lord has for each one of us.

We’re Calvary Chapel’s Central Maui, and we are a community of believers united under the lordship of Jesus Christ, and we invite you to come to be part of our community. (Ref. Hebrews 10:25; Psalm 34:3; Hebrews 10:24; Ephesians 4:12-13, 15-16)
